Moses and the Exodus – Exodus 4-17

This Bible story is based on Exodus 4-17

Moses Given Powerful Signs

4Ā Then Moses answered, ā€œBut behold, they will not believe me or listen to my voice, for they will say, ā€˜TheĀ LordĀ did not appear to you.ā€™ā€Ā 2Ā TheĀ LordĀ said to him, ā€œWhat is that in your hand?ā€ He said,Ā ā€œA staff.ā€Ā 3Ā And he said, ā€œThrow it on the ground.ā€ So he threw it on the ground, and it became a serpent, and Moses ran from it.Ā 4Ā But theĀ LordĀ said to Moses, ā€œPut out your hand and catch it by the tailā€ā€”so he put out his hand and caught it, and it became a staff in his handā€”Ā 5Ā ā€œthat they mayĀ believe that theĀ Lord,Ā the God of their fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has appeared to you.ā€Ā 6Ā Again, theĀ LordĀ said to him, ā€œPut your hand inside your cloak.ā€[a]Ā And he put his hand inside his cloak, and when he took it out, behold, his hand wasĀ leprous[b]Ā like snow.Ā 7Ā Then God said, ā€œPut your hand back inside your cloak.ā€ So he put his hand back inside his cloak, and when he took it out, behold,Ā it was restored like the rest of his flesh.Ā 8Ā ā€œIf they will not believe you,ā€ God said, ā€œor listen to the first sign, they may believe the latter sign.Ā 9Ā If they will not believe even these two signs or listen to your voice, you shall take some water from the Nile and pour it on the dry ground, and the water that you shall take from the NileĀ will become blood on the dry ground.ā€

10Ā But Moses said to theĀ Lord, ā€œOh, my Lord, I am not eloquent, either in the past or since you have spoken to your servant, butĀ I am slow of speech and of tongue.ā€Ā 11Ā Then theĀ LordĀ said to him, ā€œWho has made man’s mouth? Who makes him mute, or deaf, or seeing, or blind? Is it not I, theĀ Lord?Ā 12Ā Now therefore go, andĀ I will be with your mouth and teach you what you shall speak.ā€Ā 13Ā But he said, ā€œOh, my Lord, please send someone else.ā€Ā 14Ā Then the anger of theĀ LordĀ was kindled against Moses and he said, ā€œIs there not Aaron, your brother, the Levite? I know that he can speak well. Behold,Ā he is coming out to meet you, and when he sees you, he will be glad in his heart.Ā 15Ā You shall speak to him andĀ put the words in his mouth, andĀ I will be with your mouth and with his mouth and will teach you both what to do.Ā 16Ā He shall speak for you to the people, and he shall be your mouth, andĀ you shall be as God to him.Ā 17Ā And take in your handĀ this staff, with which you shall do the signs.ā€
