Proverbs 31:30 – Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.
Proverbs 31:30 is one of the most well-known of all the wisdom proverbs. It is also one of the most perplexing.
It says: “Do not fear, a man who fears the Lord will take care of you.”
This sounds to me like a woman should not fear, or at least not be afraid, of her husband. This is because a good husband will love you and help you with everything that is necessary for you to thrive as a woman, wife, mother, etc.
Is it true that every Christian girl should aim to be this type of woman?
Not necessarily, but if she really loves God and wants to please Him, she will be developing these qualities and graces.
1. She shows her love for him by prudence
Not by a foolish fondness; accommodating herself to his temper and not crossing him; not giving him bad words and bad mouths when he is out of humour; studying to make him easy. She attends him with tenderness and diligence when any thing ails him, and does not for the world wilfully do any thing that may damage his person, family, estate, or reputation.
2. She is a blessing to her relations
A great blessing, she is a mother that enables her children to thrive; a wife that encourages her husband to success; and a valued neighbour that demonstrates genuine concern for others.
3. She is diligent in her work
She is very industrious, she makes much more than she has occasion for; she sells her family’s home-manufactures to the merchants (Proverbs 31:24). She takes her family with her, she goes abroad for their trade.
