Turn From Sin – 1 John 5:18

One of the most significant things about the Christian faith is that it is not a license to sin. Christians can sin, but not if they are a child of God; that is, they have not been reborn to live under the law of sin and death (Romans 8:1-2).

But this is not to say that there is no room for error. There may be times when believers lapse into their old habits, but this is an indication of a spiritual struggle within them.

There must be a desire to overcome the forces and habits of sin in their lives, as well as an internal desire to live a life that is pleasing to God. This desire is the hallmark of being a believer.

This belief is so powerful that it changes a person’s heart and mind forever. It enables him or her to be more and more like Jesus Christ in all aspects of his or her life.

The resulting transformation is so great that the person is no longer tempted to fall back into his old ways of wrongdoing. This is the most powerful evidence that he or she is a true Christian.

The fact that believers do not commit sin as a habitual practice is the most important proof that they have been reborn. It is also an extremely important proof that the believer has been kept by Christ.
