And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.”
Many people assume that God is above suffering and will never let us suffer. However, the Bible teaches that we will experience grief and sorrow, even as we pursue our eternal future with our loving God.
Suffering and pain come because of our sins
If you are a parent, you have probably seen your children sin and suffer the consequences of their actions. If you are a spouse, you know that your partner may make mistakes that have painful consequences for their relationship.
Despite the fact that we have made bad choices and hurt others, God still loves us. His unfailing love enables Him to bring about good even in the midst of our suffering and pain.
The promise that Revelation 21:4 reveals is that one day Jesus will return and remove all evil from the world. That day will be followed by a happy eternity with no more sorrow or pain.
It is important to remember that Revelation was written to encourage Christians in their faith and to tell them about a future time when the Lord will return.
The book of Revelation is often read as a mystery, but it was written as a message to Christians during the persecutions in which they were living. It was written in a very symbolic way. It shows what is going to happen in the future and it is not about moral sermons or ethical ideas, it is about a battle that will be between right and wrong. The author of Revelation was a believer and he saw what was coming and he wrote it as a reminder to the people around him that right would ultimately triumph over evil.
