Psalm 34:4 – Learn to Fear the LORD

Psalm 34:4I sought the Lord, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears.

Psalm 34:4 is a psalm written by David to praise God for delivering him from the Philistines. It is also a responsorial psalm that is often used in the Liturgy of the Hours and in Holy celebrations.

This psalm was inspired by the historical context of King David’s escape from Abimelech (a Philistine king) when he changed his behavior in 1 Samuel 21:10-15. In this psalm, David praises God for the deliverance of him from Abimelech and invites other people to join him in singing to the Lord.

The words that are spoken here are full of emotion. They are meant to be sung, and they speak from the heart.

Those who fear the LORD shall not lack any good thing. They will have a long life and be happy, because they trust in the LORD.

One of the best ways to be a person who fears the LORD is to control your tongue, which can be difficult for most of us. You don’t want to say things that you will later regret or be ashamed of.

Your lips must not speak deceit, and you should love many days, that you may see good. These are two simple things that can help you live a life of goodness and wisdom.

In addition to these three things, you should have a right attitude towards God. You can learn to fear the LORD by remembering what He has done for you and by listening to His Word.
