In ancient times, worshipers would celebrate special days by rejoicing and being glad. This is why you often see these words in church services or wedding ceremonies. The Bible teaches us that we are to give thanks and praise to God because He is the creator of everything.
This is why it’s important to start every day with the reality that we are in a new day! There is something about rejoicing and being glad in the fact that we are in a new day that can make a difference in how we live.
Psalm 118:24 is an Old-Testament psalm that does not name an author, but it is believed to be written by King David. The psalm is found in both the Hebrew and English versions of the Bible.
It is sung during The Feast of Tabernacles (Sukkot) and the Passover Seder, which were ordained by God for Israel to remember their salvation from Egypt. The psalm was also sung during Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem.
This psalm is a prophetic song about the coming of Messiah and the victory He will bring. It also points to the fact that He will be rejected and crucified, but that He is the one who has taken the rejected stone and made it the capstone of His rule on earth.
As we approach Easter, the psalm reminds us that we are in a brand-new day of triumph and victory over death and hell. That’s why it’s so important to celebrate the risen Lord and to look forward to the Day of Resurrection, when we will be with Him forever.
Chorus:
Today is the day You have made
I will rejoice and be glad in it
Today is the day You have made
I will rejoice and be glad in it
And I won’t worry about tomorrow
I’m trusting in what You say
Today is the day today is the day
Verse:
I’m casting my cares aside
I’m leaving my past behind
I’m setting my heart and mind on You Jesus
I’m reaching my hands to Yours
Believing there’s so much more
Knowing that all You have in store for me is good
It’s good
Verse:
I’m putting my fears aside
I’m leaving my doubts behind
I’m giving my hopes and dreams to You Jesus
I’m reaching my hands to Yours
Believing there’s so much more
Knowing that all You have in store for me is good
It’s good
Bridge:
I will stand upon Your truth
And all my days I’ll live for You
And I will stand upon Your truth
And all my days I’ll live for You
