Jeremiah 31:3 – God: The Promise Keeper
Among the themes of Jeremiah 31:3 is God’s promise that He will again take His people into covenant relationship with Him, even though they seem to have been cut off from him. In this chapter, Jeremiah exhorts Israel to return to God as soon as possible after the great persecution they have endured.
A Restored Relationship With God: The End of the Dispensation
In the time of Jeremiah, northern Israel was in exile. They had been out of the land for a century and a half, and they could barely be distinguished as God’s people from the rest of the world.
But God promises that He will bring them back to the land in the Millennium and will restore their identity as his special people. He will make them a nation of devoted and loyal followers of his Son Jesus Christ, who is their Messiah.
He will do this by bringing them back to the Land and rebuilding them in Jerusalem.
As they are brought back to the Land, they will be able to enjoy abundant agriculture. This will provide food for them and their families. It will also be a source of great joy for them. Moreover, the city of Jerusalem will be rebuilt to be God’s holy place. This will be the city that the Jews of the future will always look forward to when they think about their homeland. And when they do, they will be able to rejoice in the Lord forever.
