Today’s Superverse is Deuteronomy 6:5 – Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.
Today we have a super super verse so let us read it together found in Deuteronomy 6:5. It says you must love the Lord your God with all your heart all your soul And all your strength.
The lawyer had been tempted with a question about life after death (Eternal Life) Luke 10:25-37. He referred to Deuteronomy 6:5. “You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.”
There was no reason for the scribe to have interpreted this as a “might” command. A “might” command would have meant something like, “You should obey all the precepts of the law, to a very large extent.” That would have been a literal translation.
The Hebrew word for love is agape, which means taking pleasure in, to prize above other things, to have a preference for. A love of God is a response to Him because He alone is God.
While the “might” command can have a different meaning in the NT, it is most likely a translation of the OT text. It is a translation that may have been used in the first century.
If the evangelists intended to introduce a new concept, they probably did not mean to. They probably just wanted to illustrate the Hebrew text. However, they might have done so by using Greek words.
A heart is the seat of intellect and emotions. Leviticus 26:36 states that the heart is also the place where a person carries values. This is consistent with Numbers 15:39, which says that the heart is the place where a person carries his or her value.
It is easy to commit apostasy when circumstances are favorable. On the other hand, it is harder to commit apostasy when the circumstances are bad. Keeping the LORD’s testimonies is a way to avoid this.
