But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness – Matthew 6:33
Jesus says in this teaching, “Seek first his kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added unto you.” When it comes to our priorities, the first thing we should strive for is to put God above all else. He alone is the King of our lives and He will provide all that we need, if only we seek Him with all our heart.
This is a good principle for our daily lives, especially in this day of economic struggle and anxiety. The Bible tells us that the things of earth (the world) will pass away but the things of the kingdom of heaven will never pass away, and Jesus says that he has come to establish His Kingdom here on earth for a time (Daniel 2:44).
If we are in Christ, He has already provided all that we need, so we don’t have to worry about having our needs met unless we ask Him to. He knows that we will need our physical needs and wants, and he will supply them to us in His time.
In the world, we often think that our material prosperity is a result of our own hard work. But in reality, we are relying on God to take care of our needs, and He does this through His people. He provides the strength to carry on in spite of economic difficulties, sicknesses, and other challenges, and he always supplies for our every need.
