Matthew 28:19-20 “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
After Jesus died and rose again, His disciples were left with an incredible responsibility. He gave them explicit instructions to spread His message across all people groups worldwide–known as The Great Commission–while also leaving behind an example of discipleship they could teach future generations – not simply meant as teaching material, but applicable in everyday life situations as well.
Matthew 28:16-20 records Jesus instructing his disciples to go and make disciples from all nations, to baptize those who accept his message in the name of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit and teach these new followers all that He commanded them.
Discipleship was not something that can be accomplished overnight, it requires dedication and obedience towards Christ for a lifetime journey of transformation and change.
The Old Testament details God’s promise of blessing all nations through Israel (Genesis 12:3-4). Jesus fulfilled those promises by living a perfect life, dying on our behalf and rising again from death. These eleven men found it challenging to believe and then follow Christ, risking their lives and possessions to do what He called them to do. But they remained committed and persevered in their mission. This demonstrates that the gospel truly transforms lives, not simply outwardly but internally as well. It not only changes one’s appearance but their attitudes and hearts toward God and others as well, providing peace amid chaos, hope rather than despair and joy rather than mourning.
Discipleship can be a difficult endeavor. It takes time and dedication to grasping and living by the gospel message. Discipling other people requires considerable dedication; yet every Christian must commit themselves to this worthwhile pursuit if we wish to bring heaven to earth and live fulfilling lives that please our Lord.
If you want to become a disciple or assist another in becoming one, finding a Christian mentor who can guide your through the principles of discipleship is key. It could be someone from church or simply someone in your life with strong Christian convictions who could serve as your guide and provide valuable spiritual advice. Ideally this should be someone with whom you can spend quality time discussing your spiritual life while learning from each other – this could include reading a Bible chapter together each week, taking walks around your neighborhood discussing God or meeting up at gym every Tuesday afternoon studying Christian biographies alongside fellow classmates/friends studying Christian biographies together – find someone with whom you can spend quality time discussing spiritual matters while growing together spiritually!
