The one who can destroy both soul and body in hell – Matthew 10:28
A central eschatological teaching in many theistic religions is that after death, people suffer punishment for their sins. Some of these religions believe that the punishment of hell occurs immediately upon death, while others teach that it occurs after Judgment Day, which is described in Revelation.
In the Bible, a hell is a place of eternal separation from God and His blessings. It is also a place of severe torment for the souls of those who reject and disobey Him all throughout their lives.
Jesus taught that hell was a place of total and conscious separation from the God who created us and who wants to give life to those who choose to believe in Him. It is a place where the unrepentant will enter into an eternity of torment in the Lake of Fire that God describes in Revelation 19:20-22.
It is a place where God will destroy both the soul and the body of those who refuse to accept His offer of forgiveness and salvation in Christ.
The term “hell” is translated from the Greek word Gehenna, which refers to the valley southwest of Jerusalem where children were sacrificed to pagan deities years before the Jews inhabited the land. This valley was later a place where garbage and dead bodies were thrown away and burned.
The word for “soul” is psuche, which means the inner, spiritual life that exists within us. However, it is important to note that this term is used in a much broader sense in the New Testament than it is today.
