John 5:28-29
Do not marvel at this; for the hour is coming in which all who are in the graves will hear His voice 29 and come forth—those who have done good, to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of condemnation.
Jesus tells us about a time in the future when He will speak, and everyone who has ever died will be brought back to life. He explains that this will take place at the end of the age. The resurrection will be both for the righteous and for the unrighteous.
The risen Lord will be seated at the right hand of God in heaven (Ezekiel 37:12). He will raise the dead to life, just as He raised Lazarus to life from death. He will also resurrect the saints in the tribulation, those who have been believers before His death and have continued to live through the tribulation.
He will then bring back the disembodied souls to life, and will judge all the unrighteous dead who have ever lived. This will be done at the Great White Throne of Christ’s judgment, which takes place during the millennium reign on the earth.
When you read the gospels, there is a lot to be said about Jesus’ claim to be the Son of God. He was not a religious charlatan, as some have believed. His words and life had the ring of truth, as we see in the Bible.
So when Jesus claimed to be the Messiah, a god in human flesh, His contemporaries were visibly astounded. They couldn’t believe that a carpenter would make such a claim.
