God’s Love is Greater – Psalm 108:4
God loves the people who love and obey him very much. This is called *righteousness. When you are righteous, you do good things and do not do bad things. When you do bad things, you are called *sinners. The people who are really righteous are called Israelites and Jews.
The psalmist David wrote this psalm after the Bath-sheba incident, when he was afraid that God had walked away from him. He also wanted to make sure that he was going to be strong enough to fight the enemies who were coming against him.
He started this psalm by combining parts of two different psalms (Psalms 57:7-11 and 60:5-12), which he had written previously. He deleted the laments that began each psalm, and combined his own words of personal exaltation with those of confidence in God.
In this psalm, the words of exaltation are used as prophecy to let Israel know that God will be with them, even when they face difficult times. In the next section, the words of confidence are used to say that God will give them strength and victory against all the enemies that are coming against them.
The psalm is dedicated in light of the gathering and return of Israel and her Messiah. It is also a prayer for the church, to have all its needs met and to be strong and victorious in its battle against all who are standing against it. It is also a praise of God’s great power and lovingkindness to his covenant people.
