Psalm 32:7 – You are my hiding place; you will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance.
There are many times in the Christian life when one must flee for his or her life from the assaults of the enemy. It is at these times that one must seek out the Lord’s Hiding Place in the rocks and crags and caves of the wilderness.
In this Psalm David demonstrates his own experience of seeking the Lord’s Hiding Place during those times. He teaches us that we can do this by seeking and listening to God (Psalm 32:1).
Those who truly love the Lord and seek him will find a safe place where they are not doubled up with vice, or twisted in craft, or bent in dishonesty. They will be able to speak freely and with the truth, because they will know the Lord’s word.
Then the Lord will instruct them, and they will learn to walk in His ways.
Several modern translators, however, do not see this as a mystical way of speaking. Some of them interpret it as a statement that those who seek God by penitence and confession will be guided, and therefore enjoy the blessing of fellowship with Him again.
When we understand the forgiveness of God and have fellowship restored with Him, then it is a time to rejoice! In Philippians 4:4 we read that “rejoice in the Lord always, again, I say, ‘Rejoice!'”
This is a beautiful and instructive psalm, and we can look to it as a guide for our own life. It can be a helpful tool to remind ourselves of the joy we should have in Jesus Christ, even when our trials come.
