Wisdom is defined as the ability to discern and judge what is true, right and lasting; choosing worthy ends with effective means of attaining them; receiving this gift from God makes wisdom an indispensable part of daily living.
Scripture places great value on wisdom as the ultimate goal to strive for.
Wisdom is a gift from God
Wisdom is an indescribable gift from God that empowers Christians to see truth and apply it practically. Wisdom arises when Christians fear and revere the Lord with all of their hearts, as well as by discernment right and wrong, good judgment and walking humbly before Him. Practicing godly wisdom ensures you live life honorably and pleasing to Him.
The Bible talks extensively about wisdom. It is one of the spiritual gifts, listed first by Paul in 1 Corinthians 12. However, different people often have differing interpretations of what being wise means – for instance some consider someone wise if they possess knowledge in certain fields.
This approach can lead to misinterpretations; for example, one could interpret it as meaning that wisdom requires faith. Therefore, it would be more helpful to examine biblical definition of wisdom which encompasses understanding, knowledge and an acceptance to act on such knowledge.
It is a shield to those who walk in integrity
Solomon emphasizes several virtues in Proverbs chapter 2 including wisdom, courage and integrity. He encourages us to strive to lead lives that reflect these traits while warning that those who don’t will experience dire repercussions. Lastly he reminds us that wisdom comes directly from God – who also gifted it as part of life.
Verse 6-8 lists the benefits of wisdom: it serves as a source of knowledge accessible only to the righteous; it shelters those who act ethically, protecting justice’s paths as well as those treading them – and safeguards God’s saints on the journey ahead.
Wisdom helps us recognize the true nature of things. If a flattering seductress appears alluring, wisdom will show us where her path leads: straight to death. This can provide important protection as many who follow it never return home again.
It is a weapon against evil
Wisdom can be your weapon against evil; however, it should not be measured by IQ or degrees but instead through spiritual understanding and the ability to judge righteously while offering moral and practical solutions for unique problems or situations.
The Bible proclaims wisdom as superior to strength. Achieving godly wisdom over military might is more essential for cities or nations if they wish to survive and flourish; weapons of war bring destruction while well-applied divine guidance can save cities and free its people.
One of the hallmarks of wisdom is its long-range perspective on eternity. Wisdom can provide us with the skills necessary for long-term planning rather than holding onto shortsighted control of what will fade away quickly. That is why so much emphasis is placed on wisdom throughout Proverbs and Ecclesiastes – not simply as knowledge but rather a gift from God himself!
It is a weapon against temptation
Wisdom may seem exclusive to the old and smart, but anyone can gain it by accessing and applying appropriate information. For instance, following school and office rules could make you wise.
Wisdom’s hallmark characteristic is its capacity for discernment between truth and error, right and wrong, good and evil – this ability being known as understanding. Understanding can help find moral or practical solutions to complex dilemmas or situations.
Philosophy scholars generally agree that wisdom is a virtue, yet their views differ on its requirements. Some philosophers like Aristotle assert it requires moral virtue while other like Whitcomb suggest it may even be possible for someone who practices deeply evil behavior to achieve wisdom. Unfortunately, however, such views suffer from similar problems to (EA2) and should be rejected.
