Jesus’ Ability to Calm The Storm
In three of the four gospels, Jesus calms the storm. The story is memorable and highly visual. It demonstrates the ability of Jesus to calm any storm and teaches that He is in control. You’ll want your children to learn from the story and understand what it means to trust God with their lives. There are many benefits to learning the Bible’s story about Jesus’ ability to calm storms. If you’re looking for a lesson for Sunday school or Bible study, try these free lessons on Jesus’ calms the storm.
Jesus Is In Control Of Nature
If Jesus calms the storm, it means He is in control of nature. He created the world and its elements by his divine fiat. He is the creator of the world, and the storm is the setting for God to show His glory. So if you are afraid of storms, don’t worry. Jesus is your savior. If your fear of storms keeps you from following Him, you’ll never feel overwhelmed or alone.
After watching the video, we can act out the story of Jesus calming the storm. We can then discuss what our fears were. The disciples were afraid, but Jesus was able to calm the storm by simply saying, “Be still.”
Jesus Saves
During the storm, Jesus was asleep. The disciples were trying to save their lives and the boat. He was allowing Himself to rest in the boat during the storm. Jesus’ sleeping could have been a sign to the disciples that everything was alright. In this case, the disciples did not trust them because they were not prepared for the storm. They feared losing the boat, but Jesus remained calm and peaceful. That night, they were able to sleep through the storm.
Thoughts To Ponder
The disciples had little faith in Jesus, but they woke him up to bail out the water and jump overboard if the boat sank. Jesus was a good teacher, but the disciples never expected him to calm the storm. After all, Jesus was with God during the creation of the world. After all, he had been with God when He spoke water into existence. Surely, they had no expectations of him stopping the storm.
Lesson Learned
Jesus uses the storm as a classroom for His disciples. In this way, the storm becomes a practical spiritual lesson. It is one thing to learn about God while sitting in church; it is a different story when you’re losing a loved one, having a job disappear, or even your marriage crumbling. There are some lessons in life that are only learned through storms.
Jesus’ command to calm the storm demonstrated His authority over nature. His disciples were amazed. They questioned whether the storm was natural or demonic. Yet, they didn’t realize that Jesus had power over nature. It was His words that calmed the storm. As Christians, we can also apply this principle to storms in life. While God’s plan is to be revealed through a storm, Jesus’ actions demonstrate His authority. Let us not forget that He has the ability to calm the storm, He is in control and He saves.
Application
You’ve probably heard of Jesus calming the storm in the synoptic gospels. This dramatic event occurs near the Sea of Galilee. Jesus was teaching his disciples near the water and needed a break from the crowds. So, he climbed into a boat and headed to the opposite shore, where there weren’t any towns. While he was sailing, Jesus fell asleep. A storm arose and the boat was soon overturned.
If we can follow Jesus’ example, we can find comfort in the fact that He can calm the storm in our lives, whether it’s a storm on the sea or a tornado raging in the air. Our faith in God pushes those thoughts out, and our focus is on the bigger God who is bigger than our storms. If we are willing to follow His example, we can be confident that Jesus will bring us safely to the other side of whatever storm is brewing
