Matthew 21:22 – The Parable of the Vineyard

Matthew 21:22 – “If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.”

Matthew 21:22 – The Parable of the Vineyard

Jesus was often confronted by people in authority and he always responded with parables. If they didn’t get the first one, he would give them a second one. In today’s Gospel lection we have one of these parables, and it’s a powerful and instructive illustration.

The Lord’s Vineyard

In this parable Jesus speaks of a landowner who has farmed his vineyard and given his produce to the tenants. He sends his servants to gather the produce, but these tenants are treating them unfairly. They are mistreating them, running off their workers, and even killing their servants.

The Lord reveals his anger and frustration with these wicked tenants. He shows them that when he comes back to his vineyard, he will take the wicked tenants and put them to death. He will also lease the vineyard to other tenants who will give him the produce at the harvest time.
