Isaiah 40:31 But those who wait on the Lord
Shall renew their strength;
They shall mount up with wings like eagles,
They shall run and not be weary,
They shall walk and not faint.
As we await the release of God’s people from captivity, Isaiah encourages them to wait on the Lord with confidence and expectation. He says that those who wait for the Lord will renew their strength: They will mount up with wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, and they will walk and not faint.
When a bird of prey is diving down at speeds of up to 200 miles per hour, their wings instantly spread out to help slow them down and catch their prey. It’s the same principle that allows these birds to soar above their targets without getting tired or flying out of control.
They are called “eagles” because they are able to soar through the sky like this, yet they do not get tired or weak when they fly. This is because they are waiting on the Lord who gives them the power to endure and not be tempted to fall off their wings.
He also gives them the ability to soar up with their wings, to fly above their troubles and challenges, and to see clearly and give mercy and understanding to those who are difficult.
It is a beautiful thing to see this truth in action! It’s the same truth that we have to remember in our own lives when we are facing difficult challenges. We need to soar on our God-given wings of grace and authority if we are going to make change.

Lyrics:
Verse 1:
Here I am waiting
Abide in me I pray
Here I am longing for You
Hide me in Your love
Bring me to my knees
May I know Jesus more and more
Chorus:
Come live in me all my life
Take over
Come breathe in me
I will rise on eagle’s wings
Come live in me all my life
Take over
Come breathe in me
I will rise on eagle’s wings
Bridge:
I will rise on eagle’s wings
I will rise on eagle’s wings
