Creator and Peacemaker Colossians 11520

15 who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation; 16 for in him were all things created, in the heavens and upon the earth, things visible and things invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers; all things have been created through him, and unto him; 17 and he is before all things, and in him all things [a]consist. 18 And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; [b]that in all things he might have the preeminence. 19 [c]For it was the good pleasure of the Father that in him should all the fulness dwell; 20 and through him to reconcile all things [d]unto [e]himself, having made peace through the blood of his cross; through him, I say, whether things upon the earth, or things in the heavens.

The Supremacy of the Son of God

Paul’s main theme in this passage is Jesus Christ. He explains that Jesus is the Creator and the Peacemaker, and he tells us that we have an important role in the work of both of these roles.

He tells them that their faith in Jesus and their belief in God’s redemptive plan for them will cause them to be able to understand and live out these roles.

First, Paul explains that Jesus is the image of the invisible God (v. 15). He is also the firstborn over creation, the creator of the universe, the head of the church, and the firstborn from the dead.

Secondly, Paul talks about how God has brought all things back to Himself again, both on earth and in heaven. The first way that this happens is by making peace through Jesus’ blood. This is done through his death on the cross.

Third, Paul talks about how Jesus is the Savior of all people. He is the one who takes away our sins, forgives them, and brings us to God.

Fourth, he is the Reconciler of all things. He reconciles the world to God, so that the entire creation can be made right again and all things can be restored to their original purpose and perfection.

Finally, Paul tells them that Jesus is the Reconciler of all people and things. This is the most important role that Jesus has in our lives, and we need to learn all we can about it.
